Psytrance (psychedelic trance) is a high-energy subgenre of electronic dance music characterized by hypnotic, repetitive basslines, complex layered melodies, and tempos typically ranging from 135 to 150 BPM. Emerging in the 1990s from the Goa trance scene in India, it distinguishes itself from standard trance by its darker, more aggressive sound and intricate, trippy sound design.
